TSWALU

Impressions of Tswalu Game Reserve. Textures, shapes, colours and tones, atmosphere and ambiance. This place is definitely one of a kind and worth visiting when traveling in South Africa.

Exploring wildlife of Tswalu has been one of the main activities! This region of South Africa has many rare and endangered species like pangolin, bat-eared fox, aardvark, African wild dog, black desert rhino and others. We were very lucky to spot some of them and watch them in the natural habitat.

IDEAL COUPLE GETAWAY

Tswalu is ideal for couples seeking a romantic and memorable getaway, offering exclusivity, privacy, and luxury in a vast, private game reserve setting. With limited guests, personalized experiences like private game drives, bush picnics, stargazing, and sleepouts ensure intimate and unique moments. The luxurious accommodations, including private suites with plunge pools and scenic decks, provide a cozy and romantic atmosphere, while diverse wildlife encounters and activities like horseback riding, hot air ballooning, and spa treatments create unforgettable shared experiences. The focus on relaxation, wellness, and tailored adventures makes Tswalu a perfect destination for couples to connect with nature and each other.

KLEIN JAN

Attending restaurant KLEIN JAN has definitely been one of the main highlights of staying at Tswalu. The setting is intentionally designed to connect diners with nature, blending elements of luxury with the rustic charm of the Kalahari Desert. The entrance of the restaurant, through an old windmill, adds to the uniqueness of the experience. KLEIN JAN is the brainchild of South African-born Michelin-starred chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen. His culinary philosophy focuses on celebrating local ingredients, heritage, and traditional South African flavors while adding a contemporary twist.

The menu changes seasonally and is inspired by the ingredients and produce available from the Kalahari region, ensuring each dish is fresh, unique, and closely tied to the local environment. This sustainable approach adds authenticity to the dishes and supports the local community.

Dining at KLEIN JAN is not just about the food but also an immersive journey that includes storytelling about the origins of the ingredients and the inspiration behind the dishes. For us it felt like being in the “Menu” movie, except everyone stayed alive and very much enjoyed the culinary journey from the first compliments from the kitchen to the final desserts and cheese plate.
